Lotus 7.0 is a living wall made out of smart foils which interact with the spectators. As they draw closer to the installation, hundreds of aluminium foils unfold themselves in an organic way, generating links between the private and public spaces. Here, walls come to life through a poetic materialisation of “showing/hiding”. The artist explains: “In a world constantly shifting from analogical to digital, I’m interested in what happens when technology steps out of the computer screen and interferes in our walls, our organisms and urban landscapes, to generate tactile poetry when the physical space becomes immaterial.”
Daan Roosegaarde’s work explores the dynamic relationship between architecture, the public and “e-cultures”. In this interaction, his high tech tactile sculptures lead to observers becoming one with the (public) spaces. In his “Studio Roosegaarde”, he works with a team of designers and engineers to create interactive landscapes, shown around the world (Tate Modern and Victoria & Albert Museum in London, YCAM and National Art Center Tokyo in Japan, Venice Biennale, V2 in Rotterdam, etc.).
