ANAMORPHOSE CHRONOTROPE, TABLE CINETIQUE and ANAMORPHOSE SPATIALE, Adrien M Company

Interactive or generative installations, 2010, France

Based on devices developed for performances by the Adrien M Company, the installations make up a nonsensical laboratory for experiments carried out over the past 4 years on movement synaesthesia and temporal anamorphoses. They explore the digital movement and present an improbable world, at the crossroads of surrealism and abstract kinetic art from the early 20th century.

“Anamorphose Chronotrope” (chronotropic anamorphosis)
Filmed in real time, a mathematical process of temporal transformation distorts movements. These “chronotropic anamorphoses” provide images with a time factor, offering a new interpretation of movement. Each of the spectators’ gestures is distorted within a spatialised time. From the rubber man to the Moonwalk simulator, users are able to experiment an infinite number of bodily presence variations.

Cie Adrien M“Table Cinétique” (kinetic table)
This traditional-looking tactile table turns video material into tangible material, which can be manipulated directly with one’s fingers. Taking away the sacred aura of the virtual object in order to work on it at the limits of reality: that is the paradigm for interfaces of the future.

“Anamorphose Spatiale” (spatial anamorphosis)
This installation uses an age-old process to simulate a false perspective. Projected onto the floor is a light carpet represented by a moving geometry made of wires, making spectators feel disoriented. The falsified perspective implies that observers must stand at a precise point in space to find their balance.

Founded in 2004, the Adrien M Company has chosen to focus its research on the art of movement, in relation to juggling and digital art, as a tool for exploring imagination. This has led to the creation of two plays: Convergence 1.0 in 2005, a unique and dream-like exploration of juggling, and reTime in 2006, which analyses the temporal construction of juggling. These complemented their exploration of juggling, which began in 2003. After spending 3 seasons at the Manège de Reims, the company is associating with l’Hexagone – a state-supported theatre – for the 2009-2012 period, where the company will be free to carry out its future experiments.

Coproduction : Espace Jean Legendre, Théâtre de Compiègne, Hexagone – Scène nationale de Meylan, Lux – Scène nationale de Valence / Soutien : Conseil Général Isère.
